Simply Soaps Geranium Rose Balancing Soap

This is the second part of my review on the two products sent to me by Simply Soaps for review - the first part, the Rosa Passionata Facial Serum, is here if you're interested in reading!

A small confession here - I'm not someone who goes in for fancy soap. My bathroom and kitchen sinks are stocked with either Savon de Marseille or Lidl soap in pump bottles. And I'm not someone who buys bars of fancy soaps, unless as a gift for someone else, as I feel like they are less hygienic than liquid soap.

This, however, isn't a soap I'd use on my hands - of course you can, but that's not how I've tested it. Having read that this soap is mentioned in the Beauty Bible (which I have not yet read, but it's on my list!) as possibly being good for psoriasis, I decided to take it into the shower with me. I have a stubborn patch of psoriasis on the back of my scalp that flared up after my daughter was born and nothing but cortisone drops shift it, and even then only temporarily. I've tried quite a lot of medicated shampoos, and other at-home remedies like cider vinegar (my other half BEGGED me to stop when after a week of applying the stuff on my scalp it wasn't doing anything and he couldn't stand the smell anymore😂) aswell as high-end shampoos like Kerastase. The only one that kind of keeps the itching at bay is Neutrogena T-Gel, but it's still not great. I'm often itchy, flakey and dry and it ebbs and flows with how I manage what I'm eating, stress, fatigue etc. I have a feeling that one of the aggrevating ingredients that contributes to the problem is SLS and so have been on the hunt for SLS free shampoos, so when I saw that this soap was 100% organic and SLS free I decided to give it a go. For the last two weeks I've been using it in place of shampoo.

The soap itself, like the facial serum, boasts a simple and natural ingredients list.

And again like the facial serum everything is cruelty free and ethically sourced

It smells quite lovely - natural floral with a hint of dried flowers, almost like herbal teabags - I like.
You do get some foam when it makes contact with water, which is nice as some natural soaps feel quite waxy - but not this one. I lathered it on my hands and applied it to my scalp. Obviously it doesn't feel as 'moussy' as a regular shampoo (and thank the heavens smells better than Neutrogena T-Gel which smells like tar😂) but you do get a nice wash. Once you've rinsed your hair does feel a little 'squeaky clean' as it doesn't contain any silicones like a lot of shampoos. Personally it doesn't bother me as I apply a conditioner directly afterwards.
So - did it cure my psoriasis?
No.
Did it help with itching/flaking/general discomfort?
To my utter surprise, yes.
My psoriasis is not gone, but the itchiness has definitely decreased and along with it the flaking. The area is still dry but it just feels generally better and calmer  I'm pretty impressed. There isn't really a known cure for psoriasis, it's just something that you have to manage and so far this is one of the best products I've found to do that. I'm sure it's to do with the lack of SLS and synthetic ingredients, so I will continue to use this in the future and update you if I have any further improvement. But honestly, I'm just more comfortable. It's still there but it's not the bane of my life anymore, just a background annoyance.
I've also used it on my body, and again I like it. Not as much foam as your traditional shower gel but it cleanses and leaves you feeling soft and smelling nice.

In a nutshell, if you're someone who suffers with the dreaded psoriasis I highly recommend you give it a go - it may not cure it but it just might improve your itchiness and comfort levels as it did for me. It's also a must have for those of you who like bars of soap, natural ingredients, ethically sourced products and cruelty free brands. I may even get a few more to put in my guest bathroom as I can definitely see the charm of having bars of handmade soap there for visitors.

I'm really happy with the two products I received from Simply Soaps. Those of you who read the blog, follow me on IG or are in the Facebook Group know that I don't BS you - if I don't like a product and don't think it's worth your money I'll tell you! At £11.95 (€13.53) for the facial serum and £2.79 (€3.16) for the soap, these products are extremely good value. As I mentioned in the last review they offer prices both in GDP and EUR. They have a couple of other products that also look nice - lip balms, bath melts and moisturisers.

Do let me know if you try any products from the brand - their site is simplysoaps.com.

Have a great weekend everyone, I hope the sun stays out!

CloudCloth® - Sustainable, Recyclable Beauty

Hi Everyone! Let's talk cleansing cloths. In my book, cleansing cloths and flannels are a must-have. I know that a lot of people prefer to splash off their cleansers, I have tried this but for me cleansing revolves around a flannel, AM and PM. Aswell as ensuring that your skin is free of residual cleanser before you start into your routine, you can use your flannel to give your skin a light exfoliation - I would recommend using cotton for this, to be as gentle to your skin as possible These were kindly sent to me for review by CloudCloth®, and I've been using them for the last few weeks so I feel like I'm ready to give you my thoughts. Let me first give you some information about the company. CloudCloth® is based in the UK and was set up in 2017, in Manchester. Their ethos revolves around encouraging people to switch to reuseable and recyclable cleansing tools. From the site 'As a Brand, we want to give something back. We are supportive of our community of c

Alpha H Daily Essential Vitamin Mist

I love a good mist. I'm obsessed with anything skincare-related in mist form, especially toners and my @klytiaparis Voile Lacte Moisturiser (reviewed here ). So I was seriously excited to try Alpha H's mist offering, I'm now on my second bottle so can tell you my thoughts! If you don't know of Alpha H you should - and here is a quick run-down. It's an Australian skincare brand founded by Michelle Doherty and has been around for over two decades. Their star product is undoubtedly their Liquid Gold Glycolic Acid toner, which I am a huge fan of and have been using for over a year with stellar results - if you are dry/dehydrated and have issues with texture or redness this could be a skin saver for you. Everyone needs an acid toner in their life and this is by far my favourite (I've tried Clarins Gentle Exfoliator Brightening Toner reviewed here and Pixi's Glow Tonic which, quite honestly, did nothing for me). Back to the mist! The packaging is quinte

Ciara Daly - My Hero Brush Review

If you read this blog, or follow me on IG or Twitter you know that skin is my thing. From skincare to base products, for me how my skin looks is the most important. If I had to choose between amazing eye make-up, gorgeous glossy lips, IG worthy brows or a perfect base I'm picking the latter. When it comes to make-up I prefer a natural, light to medium luminous base. I'm not a huge fan of matte foundations, never have been. I don't like to look like I'm wearing tonnes of base make-up although obviously for a night out or an event I would go for a fuller base. I've tried the @hudabeauty Faux Filter and love it - it's full coverage with a natural, slightly luminous finish and is on my to buy list. But for every day I usually go for for something like my beloved Ponds BB Cream (which I have to get sent to me from abroad as it isn't available in Europe😠) either on it's own or mixed with something like Max Factor Lasting Performance or Vichy Teint Ideal to
