I love a good mist. I'm obsessed with anything skincare-related in mist form, especially toners and my @klytiaparis Voile Lacte Moisturiser (reviewed here). So I was seriously excited to try Alpha H's mist offering, I'm now on my second bottle so can tell you my thoughts!
If you don't know of Alpha H you should - and here is a quick run-down. It's an Australian skincare brand founded by Michelle Doherty and has been around for over two decades. Their star product is undoubtedly their Liquid Gold Glycolic Acid toner, which I am a huge fan of and have been using for over a year with stellar results - if you are dry/dehydrated and have issues with texture or redness this could be a skin saver for you. Everyone needs an acid toner in their life and this is by far my favourite (I've tried Clarins Gentle Exfoliator Brightening Toner reviewed here and Pixi's Glow Tonic which, quite honestly, did nothing for me).
Back to the mist!
The packaging is quintessential Alpha H, white, simple and functional. You get 100ml of product. The nozzle is great, a lot of mists and toners have dodgy nozzles that leak or spurt huge droplets of product onto your face, this nozzle sprays fine and copiously. Some don't like using mists other than setting sprays over make-up as it can displace your foundation but I use this both under and over make-up, as long as you leave it to dry before touching your face it doesn't cause problems, even though it is a 'wet' mist.
From the description on Alpha H's website:
Your invisible shield against urban ageing, this weightless facial mist forms a breathable barrier to protect the skin from premature ageing caused by urban pollution, blue light radiation and environmental aggressors. Containing two advanced antipollution ingredients—natural peptide Moringa Seed Extract and Pollushield™ as well as powerful Vitamin A, B, C, D, E complex to top up vital antioxidant levels throughout the day. This breakthrough in daily age prevention comes in the form of a moisturising spritz that instantly plumps, hydrates and refreshes with an uplifting blend of Rose Flower, Rose Geranium and Orange essential oils.
Essentially, this mist functions to hydrate, refresh and protect - and we all need that! Whether you live in the countryside or the city, pollution is everywhere and is something you need to protect your skin from. While using products that contain anti oxidiants is important to protect your skin from the environment and free radicals, this mist will serve as a top-up that you can spritz directly on to your face after make-up. Pollution is detrimental to the health of your skin and can cause dehydration, premature ageing and a wealth of other issues. It's packed full of vitamins and essentials oils and smells gorgeous, the addition of Moringa Seed Extract gives it a scent similar to Emma Hardies Moringa Cleansing Balm which is my holy grail cleanser (reviewed with some other favourite cleansers here).
An added benefit of this toner is that its ingredients also help to protect your skin against blue light radiation - which is basically the light that comes from your phone, computer and electronic devices. We all know that the suns light can damage and burn skin, but now we also have to worry about our smartphones and laptops. Many people think that if they work inside on a computer all day they don't need to protect their skin - this is unfortunately untrue. I work inside all day on a computer, and I wear SPF and this mist every day. I got through my last bottle pretty quickly, and I imagine this one won't last long because of how often I use it - aswell as over make-up I use it in between skincare steps - cleanse, spritz, tone, spritz, hydrate, spritz. Using a mist in this way will add extra moisture to your routine, which is expecially important for anyone who tends to lean towards dehydration like me. It feels refreshing and moisturising on the skin, and I love it.
You can find Alpha H on their website and a few other beauty sites such as Cloud10Beauty, BeautyBay and Lookfantastic.com but I usually buy mine from QVC.fr - Alpha H have a partnership with them and you can get sets for a really good price, mine came as part of their Christmas Liquid Rose Gold Collection which contained the mist, and a full-sized Liqui Rose Gold and handcream - it was about €54, which is pretty decent seeing as this mist retails for €35-38. If you are in Ireland or the UK check out QVC.com for deals that they sometimes have.
This is an expensive mist, but it is effective and I really enjoy it. Would I pay €37 for it alone? Honestly, no. But if I see it as part of an offer, or on QVC as part of a set then yes I would. If it's within budget for you then I recommend giving it a go, if not you don't need to run out and buy it - I suggest that you go for the Liquid Gold toner, which is around €35 and gives remarkable results, or at least it does for me. If you see it on sale or as part of a decently priced set, go for it.
