Some Favourites - Spring/Summer 2017

Some Favourite products - Spring/Summer 201
 Hi Everyone!

In my previous posts I've been talking about skincare, but today I want to talk about some make-up bits that I've been loving over the past couple of months - generally there are a lot of products that I'm really into at the moment but in the interest of keeping this post to a decent size I'm only talking about the ones that I wear almost every day.

 *Guerlain Parure de Lumiere
I bought this foundation in the Sephora sales last summer for about 30 euros, which is a steal as its usually 52. While the packaging is aesthetically pleasing, it's actually the thing I like the least about the product - I've lost the small spatula that it came with and I hate having to use my fingers to get at it - it's so unhygenic. It looks great on my vanity but is annoying to use. I've seen that it also comes in a pump bottle and that's what I'll be going for when I repurchase!

Described as 'light diffusing' on the Guerlain website, this foundation is medium coverage. If you like you can use less to achieve a lighter coverage but I would be wary of building it up too much due the finish - you're at risk of looking greasy. It has an SPF of 20, which I love - as far as I'm concerned the more SPF the better! Mine is in the shade 03 Beige Naturel which is actually too dark, but is OK if I have a bit of a tan.

The finish is extremely dewy. So if you're like me and favour a glowy base, you will love this. Those who prefer a matte finish will probably hate it! It's a cream formula and quite thick - for this reason I find that it applies best with a brush as you can really buff it into the skin - I use my Marc Jacobs The Face III. I have tried it with a Beauty Blender but it went on uneven - because it's so thick the sponge can't distribute it as well as a thinner formula -  and the finish was nowhere near as nice. Unlike a lot of dewy foundations I find that this keeps it's 'glow' even after powder - nothing annoys me more than spending money on foundations that promise a glowy finish but completely mattify under powder. (Although it's also important to make sure that your powder isn't too matte either). I recommend using a sponge to apply powder with this one - I take my damp Beauty Blender, dip it in loose powder (at the moment I'm using the Yves Rocher Light § Luminous Loose Powder) shake off the extra and gently press it on to the areas you want to set - this is how I've been setting my face lately and I've found that my base makeup is staying put for a lot longer. Especially important in the summer when its 37 degrees outside and I am literally melting. Something to note - this is quite heavily scented, very floral, which is pretty typical of Guerlain products.

 *Soleil Tan de Chanel

I was never really that into bronzers - until I bought this, that is. Last year it was all over YouTube and after seeing no less than four of my favourite beauty experts mention it (including Lisa Eldridge!) I knew I had to have it. Horror of horrors, when I arrived at the Chanel counter in Sephora Champs-Élysées the girl said that it had just been discontinued and I almost cried. You know sometimes there's a product that you really want and you feel like everything will be sunshine and rainbows once you have it? That was me. Undeterred my best friend and I continued over to the Chanel flagship store where, after 25 minutes of being ignored by an extremely haughty salesman who actually held up one finger and murmured 'Wait' when I approached the the till, I finally got my hands on it - the last one. The salesman, who had warmed up significantly once he realised that we were locals who knew our  products (he asked if we were MUA's, be still my beating heart!) confirmed that yes it had been discontinued and he couldn't even let me swatch it as it was the only one he had. I hesitated, took one look at my best friend, handed over my credit card and I don't regret a thing!

This is a cream bronzer and you get 1 oz. of product. The colour is perfection and not too orange - although when I opened it at home I thought it would be. It's best applied with a flat top brush or a sponge and gives you the most GORGEOUS sunkissed glow and a natural finish. It can be used on the face and body, but beware as it does transfer somewhat. The formula itself is like a firm mousse. It blends like a DREAM, it literally melts into the skin. I so much prefer this to powder bronzers, I feel like it's easier to control how much goes on your face - if you tap the excess onto your wrist and build it up you can't go wrong. When you look at it up close you can see the faintest gold shimmer but it hardly shows up on the skin. You can use it under or over foundation - at the moment I'm using it over but in Feb/March I was applying it under as I'm naturally quite pale. The only issue I have with this is that there is only one colour which works great with my paler skin and on light/medium skin but wouldn't show up on darker skin. Rumour has it that they plan to bring back the product in the future and include a wider shade range - I hope so!
I absolutely LOVE this product. It's 40 euros, but will last you ages. After a bit of online research I can see that it's still available in Ireland on the Brown Thomas website and in Europe on the Chanel website - get it before it's gone!

*Charlotte Tilbury PillowTalk Lip Liner and Kim KW Lipstick
These two are my babies at the moment.
I was after CT lipsticks for ages. As with many major brands (Tarte, Hourglass, Milk - I could go on!!) they weren't available in France except from her website and I generally like to swatch products before I buy, but when Tilbury landed on FeelUnique France about 6 weeks ago I couldn't help myself.
I had just started my nude lipstick phase and so the one that caught my eye was Kim KW, an extremely nude pinky peach (this could also have something to do with the fact that yes, I am a Kim KW fan and am only slightly ashamed of the fact that I want her new contouring kit). I read an interview with Charlotte in which she advised pairing it with PillowTalk liner so I threw caution to the wind and bought both.

Pillowtalk is hands down the best lipliner I have ever used. If you are a fan of peachy, pink and nude lipsticks you need this in your life - I've used it with everything from Colourpop Contempo, a mauve pink, to Dr Haushka Listick Novum 08, a medium brown with rose undertones. I don't know how it does it or what witchcraft it's made with but it makes my lips look fuller, almost as if I've had the tiniest amount of Juvaderm - it's magic. The colour is a 'your lips but better' pinky nude. It can be worn under many different shades - it's like underwear for your lips. My best friend also tried it, and even though she doesn't wear nude lipsticks she wants it.

The lipstick is a slightly different story. While I absolutely love it, it's not at all an all rounder like PillowTalk. I put this on in a rush over minimal makeup one day and ended up looking ill. I was also surprised at how peach-toned it was as it seemed more pink based online. However, with a full face of makeup and a bit of bronzer it's stunning and its that perfect light nude, exactly like Kim's signature look. Basically, if you are olive toned you will pull this off easily, pale girls like me will have to work harder. The formula is creamy and quite opaque for a nude, and gives a medium creme finish - not too much shine. The packaging is lovely, although lighter than I expected - I was thinking it would be the same weight as something like the Marc Jacobs Love Marc lipsticks - and the embossed lip print on the side is gorgeous. Wearing it with PillowTalk liner gives it a more pinky finish, which is great if you are light-toned. I don't see myself wearing this in the darker winter months, but it's the perfect summer colour. Pic of me wearing both below :)

CloudCloth® - Sustainable, Recyclable Beauty

Hi Everyone! Let's talk cleansing cloths. In my book, cleansing cloths and flannels are a must-have. I know that a lot of people prefer to splash off their cleansers, I have tried this but for me cleansing revolves around a flannel, AM and PM. Aswell as ensuring that your skin is free of residual cleanser before you start into your routine, you can use your flannel to give your skin a light exfoliation - I would recommend using cotton for this, to be as gentle to your skin as possible These were kindly sent to me for review by CloudCloth®, and I've been using them for the last few weeks so I feel like I'm ready to give you my thoughts. Let me first give you some information about the company. CloudCloth® is based in the UK and was set up in 2017, in Manchester. Their ethos revolves around encouraging people to switch to reuseable and recyclable cleansing tools. From the site 'As a Brand, we want to give something back. We are supportive of our community of c

Alpha H Daily Essential Vitamin Mist

I love a good mist. I'm obsessed with anything skincare-related in mist form, especially toners and my @klytiaparis Voile Lacte Moisturiser (reviewed here ). So I was seriously excited to try Alpha H's mist offering, I'm now on my second bottle so can tell you my thoughts! If you don't know of Alpha H you should - and here is a quick run-down. It's an Australian skincare brand founded by Michelle Doherty and has been around for over two decades. Their star product is undoubtedly their Liquid Gold Glycolic Acid toner, which I am a huge fan of and have been using for over a year with stellar results - if you are dry/dehydrated and have issues with texture or redness this could be a skin saver for you. Everyone needs an acid toner in their life and this is by far my favourite (I've tried Clarins Gentle Exfoliator Brightening Toner reviewed here and Pixi's Glow Tonic which, quite honestly, did nothing for me). Back to the mist! The packaging is quinte

Ciara Daly - My Hero Brush Review

If you read this blog, or follow me on IG or Twitter you know that skin is my thing. From skincare to base products, for me how my skin looks is the most important. If I had to choose between amazing eye make-up, gorgeous glossy lips, IG worthy brows or a perfect base I'm picking the latter. When it comes to make-up I prefer a natural, light to medium luminous base. I'm not a huge fan of matte foundations, never have been. I don't like to look like I'm wearing tonnes of base make-up although obviously for a night out or an event I would go for a fuller base. I've tried the @hudabeauty Faux Filter and love it - it's full coverage with a natural, slightly luminous finish and is on my to buy list. But for every day I usually go for for something like my beloved Ponds BB Cream (which I have to get sent to me from abroad as it isn't available in Europe😠) either on it's own or mixed with something like Max Factor Lasting Performance or Vichy Teint Ideal to
