Baby Wipes - Just No.

I will literally wipe the floor with...

Baby wipes.

Hi Everyone!

Seeing as this is my first post, and considering the name that I chose for the blog, I figured that it should be something skincare-oriented.

So without further ado let's talk about wipes. Baby wipes, to be specific. Baby wipes being used as a method of 'cleansing' the skin, to be even more specific.

We really need to talk about this. And not in an Allure-esque 'Wearing bronzer may mean you're prejuduced' kind of way but in a 'This is a serious topic that needs to be addressed kind of way' (at least if you want to keep your face looking decent for the rest of your life).

Wipes, at least in my books, are for baby backsides, haphazard car spills and cleaning the bathroom when your MIL decides to drop over last minute. Not for faces.

Think about it - when you use a wipe to clean down a bathroom surface before the impending visitors arrive on a whim, do you REALLY think of it as 'cleansing' the bathroom? Or just making the surface look clean?

Exactly.

While wipes will remove a layer of makeup and leave your skin *looking* clean, they do not cleanse the skin and this can lead to all kinds of problems - especially if you have sensitive/acne prone skin. Think rubbing the bacteria all over your face rather than cleansing your face.

For people who say that cleansing with wipes is OK

And yes, I realise how inexpensive wipes are compared to all the fancy cleansers we see on social and in Sephora/Boots etc - but a lot (not all) of them are expensive for a reason. Also, think as your skin as an investment - you will have it until you die, after all. Gone are the days when a cleanser did nothing but take off your make up, gone are the days of Ponds Cold Cream - here, in 2017, we have literally thousands of cleansers to choose from - products that not only remove makeup (although, the more expensive the cleanser the less likely I am to actually use it to remove makeup - I will talk about double cleansing in a later post) but cleanse and treat the skin. And yes, this in itself can cause a problem - I didn't have a clue what a 'balancing ' or 'purifying' cleanser was a couple of years ago - but once you can get yourself past the jargon the cleanser world is your oyster.

 Quick tips

*Try to have two cleansers in your arsenal - something oily/balmy (use first) and something creamy/milky (second)

*Avoid anything with microbeads. Just no.

*Know your skin - Oily? Dry? Sensitive? Theres a cleanser (or 10) out there for everyone

*It doesn't need to cost a fortune - think L'oreal - they do great oil and cream cleansers.

*Hot water. Not *too hot, but you know yourself. Your flannel should be humid and hot enough to cleanse those pores, but not so hot as to cause broken capillaries - you know what I mean.

*If you use a Clarisonic be sensible - you don't need that twice a day. Personally I don't and never will own one because I disagree with them but you do you.

*Get yourself some flannels - obligatory. Most cleansers aren't fully removed by water and hands alone and leaving them on your skin can cause a whole other bag of problems

*Pat dry.No rubbing

*Think of cleansing as a treat to yourself. Lock the bathroom door, stick on YouTube/Music/Netflix and ENJOY

Some of my less expensive favourites are the Alpha H Balancing Cleanser, L'oreal Extraordinary Cleansing Oil (can be used to remove makeup) and any of their cleansing creams, and the Body Shop Camomile Range - the oil and the balm are gorgeous. Also Neutrogena. While the Alpha H can cost about 28 euros the others are relatively inexpensive and readily available in a lot of places.

 What's your stance on cleansing?Single cleanse?Double?Balm?Oil?Foam?

Thanks for reading (what was supposed to be an informed and mildly entertaining educational piece but what ended up being a rant - it's Friday and my mojito wine/loooooong week is to blame. And I'm new, and suck at, this whole editing malarky)

I'd love to hear your comments

CloudCloth® - Sustainable, Recyclable Beauty

Hi Everyone! Let's talk cleansing cloths. In my book, cleansing cloths and flannels are a must-have. I know that a lot of people prefer to splash off their cleansers, I have tried this but for me cleansing revolves around a flannel, AM and PM. Aswell as ensuring that your skin is free of residual cleanser before you start into your routine, you can use your flannel to give your skin a light exfoliation - I would recommend using cotton for this, to be as gentle to your skin as possible These were kindly sent to me for review by CloudCloth®, and I've been using them for the last few weeks so I feel like I'm ready to give you my thoughts. Let me first give you some information about the company. CloudCloth® is based in the UK and was set up in 2017, in Manchester. Their ethos revolves around encouraging people to switch to reuseable and recyclable cleansing tools. From the site 'As a Brand, we want to give something back. We are supportive of our community of c...

Alpha H Daily Essential Vitamin Mist

I love a good mist. I'm obsessed with anything skincare-related in mist form, especially toners and my @klytiaparis Voile Lacte Moisturiser (reviewed here ). So I was seriously excited to try Alpha H's mist offering, I'm now on my second bottle so can tell you my thoughts! If you don't know of Alpha H you should - and here is a quick run-down. It's an Australian skincare brand founded by Michelle Doherty and has been around for over two decades. Their star product is undoubtedly their Liquid Gold Glycolic Acid toner, which I am a huge fan of and have been using for over a year with stellar results - if you are dry/dehydrated and have issues with texture or redness this could be a skin saver for you. Everyone needs an acid toner in their life and this is by far my favourite (I've tried Clarins Gentle Exfoliator Brightening Toner reviewed here and Pixi's Glow Tonic which, quite honestly, did nothing for me). Back to the mist! The packaging is quinte...

New CID Cosmetics i-glow Shimmer Powders in Coral Crush and Sirocco

If you watch my Instagram stories you know that I originally ordered Coral Crush after I had seen Caroline Hirons say how much she loved it on her stories. After having Coral Crush for a few weeks I picked up another I-glow in Sirocco, the brush that is designed for use with them and a cream eyeshadow. In this post I'll review the two I-glows. On the  New CID Cosmetics website the I-glows are described as ' an innovative and luxurious formula of  baked pigments...to bring a radiance to the skin for a lit from within look ' Coral Crush Described as a ' luminous peachy coral blush with soft gold sparkle suitable for all skin types '. This is a really stunning product, both visually and on the skin. It comes housed in a sturdy white compact with an inside mirror. Although the compact is really pretty and chic, white probably isn't the best colour for it - mine is already covered in fingerprints...! Not a huge issue, but I'm a bit of a neat freak when it...
