Some Favourites - Spring/Summer 2017

Some Favourite products - Spring/Summer 201   Hi Everyone! In my previous posts I've been talking about skincare, but today I want to talk about some make-up bits that I've been loving over the past couple of months - generally there are a lot of products that I'm really into at the moment but in the interest of keeping this post to a decent size I'm only talking about the ones that I wear almost every day.   * Guerlain Parure de Lumiere I bought this foundation in the Sephora sales last summer for about 30 euros, which is a steal as its usually 52. While the packaging is aesthetically pleasing, it's actually the thing I like the least about the product - I've lost the small spatula that it came with and I hate having to use my fingers to get at it - it's so unhygenic. It looks great on my vanity but is annoying to use. I've seen that it also comes in a pump bottle and that's what I'll be going for when I repurchase! Describ

Retinol - the MVP of skincare?

Retinol - the MVP of skincare? I was on FaceTime with my Mom the other night and, as she is a skincare lover like me, the coversation turned to retinol as she was talking about getting her derm to prescribe one. I only have a small amount of experience with retinol/retinoids(although I wish I'd started earlier) - I bought the Paula's Choice Skin Balancing Super Antioxidant Concentrate Serum with Retinol a couple of months ago and ended up giving it to my best friend. I didn't see any results after 3 or 4 weeks, but mainly I just didn't like the formula itself - it contains silica, which is a good stabiliser, but the product itself has the same feeling as Maybelline Baby Skin primer which I really dislike. Like Baby Skin it tended to ball up when layered over/under other products. I found it uncomfortable to wear at night (when one should use a retinol/retinoid - some people use this serum as a primer but I'd prefer to use it at night like God intended). I am

Favourite Cleansers - the ones I repurchase again and again

As an unashamed skincare addict, I spend a fair amount of my money on skin-related products and a good part of that cash goes on cleansers. Anyone who knows me is aware that I'm utterly addicted to them (even my other half who has no idea why one would need more than one 'face wash'). In the past I found myself tending to flit between different products and not really sticking with any in particular as I was constantly on the hunt for the next best thing that would give me the perfect cleanse, but now I've found some firm favourites. While I don't have 'perfect' skin (does anyone?!), it's now better than it's ever been thanks in part to a number of cleansers that I regularly use. These are the products that cause a slight feeling of panic in me when I see that they are coming to an end, and they are what I purchase first as soon as I can afford to do so. There are three in total and each serves a different purpose. * Emma Hardie Moringa Clea

Are Beauty Gurus ruining beauty?

Are Beauty Gurus ruining beauty? The world of beauty has seen a veritable explosion on the internet in the last years, thanks mainly to social media. These days if you have or are thinking about buying a product the first thing you probably do is head to YouTube or Instagram to see what the so-called 'gurus' think. Such is the popularity of these gurus (think literally MILLIONS of subscribers) that many of them have branched out and are doing collaborations with major established beauty brands and some have even started their own brands. This now means that not only can you have the opinion of some of your favourite bloggers/vloggers but, for a price, you can get your hands on products that they have actually made/had a hand in making. Some of the most famous are probably Huda Kattan, Jeffree Star and Jaclyn Hill. While the latter has not (yet) started her own brand she has just released an eyeshadow palette with Morphe Brushes, and I wouldnt be in the least surprised to he

Baby Wipes - Just No.

I will literally wipe the floor with... Baby wipes. Hi Everyone! Seeing as this is my first post, and considering the name that I chose for the blog, I figured that it should be something skincare-oriented. So without further ado let's talk about wipes. Baby wipes, to be specific. Baby wipes being used as a method of 'cleansing' the skin, to be even more specific. We really need to talk about this. And not in an Allure-esque 'Wearing bronzer may mean you're prejuduced' kind of way but in a 'This is a serious topic that needs to be addressed kind of way' (at least if you want to keep your face looking decent for the rest of your life). Wipes, at least in my books, are for baby backsides, haphazard car spills and cleaning the bathroom when your MIL decides to drop over last minute. Not for faces. Think about it - when you use a wipe to clean down a bathroom surface before the impending visitors arrive on a whim, do you REALLY think of it
